Message from First Lady Worthem – 8/18/2023

Message from the Desk of First Lady Deaconess Linda Worthem

Date: August 18, 2023

Holy Greetings my brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus Christ. I remain saved, sanctified and kept by the power of the Holy Ghost. I give honor to our General Chief Overseer, Bishop Dr. Calvin Worthem and the Assistant Overseer, Bishop Dr. Bonnie Guster and all officials of the Church of the Living God who are teaching, preaching and living according to the Word of God.

Saints, I’m so thankful that God met us in the 115th General Assembly in a mighty way; souls were revived and saved, Praise God. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the Assembly, the sermons, the tent services, early morning prayer, the Youth Day activities, especially the block party. Deaconess Dr. Telashay Swope-Farr, newly appointed Youth Director and Minister Vanise Boles Camp Jewell Director, they did an awesome job with our youth this year. My brothers and sisters the General Chief Overseer and I appreciate and thank you for every gift: the beautiful suit, plaque, gift baskets, cards, battery hand fan, Bishop Crozier, and monetary gifts.

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, I conveyed an encouraging message to the saints in Toccopola. My message was simple, I encourage all to, “LIVE FOR GOD”.  Daily we make choices, what to eat, what to wear, etc. Today, I encourage you, that while the blood is running warm in your veins, give your life to God and live for Him. The Bible is our spiritual GPS that God has given us. It is our user’s manual and shows us how to have a fulfilling life and prepare for our God-given purpose. According to the 2 Peter 3:10, “… the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and the heavens will pass away”. Hence, Hebrews 3:15, tells us, “…To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation”.

Billy Graham one of the greatest evangelists that ever lived made a personal choice at the age of 15 to give his life to God, to live a saved, holy, and sanctified life. Saints we must have the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost gives us power to live free from sin if we desire to.  Remember, if people around you are not living for God, just pray for them and you keep living for Him.  My message will always be, “LIVE FOR GOD.” Even in death, I want these three words to be on my headstone, “LIVED FOR GOD”.

In my closing, I encourage all wives to join Bishop Marva Neal’s “Wives Ministry Zoom meetings. Titus 2:3-5 tells us, “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”  The Wives Ministry meeting date and time is sent to all pastors each month. The role of wife in ministry is to support encourage and model Godliness to her husband and the church. A wife is in a unique position of leadership and influence, but also of service and humility.  Please call in to Bishop Neal’s next Zoom meeting. All Praise be the true and living God.

His Servant,

Deaconess Linda Worthem

Weekly Message from General Chief Overseer Bishop Dr. Calvin Worthem

Date: 08/07/2023

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to Him be the Glory, Power, and Dominion forever and ever and to the Holy Ghost that is yet abiding in the body. This month’s key word is ENCOURAGEMENT!

We all face struggles; some are self-afflicted and others are not.  We can take comfort in what Jesus Christ has done on the cross and how Jesus’ sacrifice guarantees that God loves us and is watching out for us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 tells us, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.”

In closing, my brothers and sisters, be encouraged when life is tiring, you are struggling with your sin, family members aren’t saved,  bills aren’t paid,  school is difficult, work is exhausting, your health is failing,  your loved ones are hurt, the future is unsure, and when a good friend leaves, it is easy to be discouraged. Keeping our eyes on Jesus is the best way to be encouraged.  In Him, we can have comfort, peace, and encouragement.  You need to find Him and His words, and by faith rest in Him. Until next week, remember, “… with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26)”.

In His Service,

Bishop Dr. Calvin Worthem

General Chief Overseer/Senior Bishop

Friday Devotion and Prayer. August 4, 2023
                                           “Meditate on God’s Word”

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” – Psalms 1:1-2

The opening verse of Psalms is packed with so much Truth; its message is straightforward, timeless, and jam-packed with theology for Christians. Largely credited as written by King David, this Psalm reminds us anyone who doesn’t allow themselves to be swayed by worldly influences is blessed. Blessings continually come to those who choose to walk in the way of the Lord, disassociate from ungodly influences, and don’t engage in foolish talk.

Living a righteous life has always been difficult. Every day we must choose which master we will surrender to, ourselves or God. There is a spiritual battle that wages all around us, and each day is a fight to pursue holiness. Psalm One gives instructions to flee temptation. Instead, we should delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. The Hebrew word for delight in this text means “to bend.” This verse tells us the blessed person bends to God’s will. Instead of rigidly following their own path, the righteous are flexible and willing to allow the Lord and His laws to direct their paths. They don’t simply read Scripture; they put its truths into practice, allowing their lives to be walking testimonies to the Gospel.

As believers, we meditate on God’s word. What do you think of when you think about meditating? I always thought this had to happen in a dark, quiet room, blocking off hours to sit and pray to God. But that’s not what this verse is implying. Most of us don’t have the margin to meditate like this. Thankfully, biblical mediation means we fill our minds with Scripture so God’s words permeate our thoughts as we go about our lives. While we sit at the traffic light, we think about God’s goodness. As we wait in the check-out line, we recall the fruits of the spirit. When cooking dinner, we ponder what it means to humble ourselves. Meditating on God’s words is a daily commitment to renewing our minds, conforming our thoughts and desires to the Lord, and living a life influenced by biblical truth.

Don’t discount the depth of the Psalms because of the emotional emphasis or conversational tone.; the Psalms are a battle cry for believers living in a fallen world. If you often breeze through the Psalms, let me encourage you to meditate on this book as you seek to reject the world’s ways and hide God’s words in your heart.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the Bible so we can learn your laws and more about You. Thank you for instructing us on living our lives and sharing your many attributes, inviting us into a personal relationship with you. We ask that You guard our hearts and help us flee temptation, clinging to Your Truth. Let us not be fooled; we are incapable of dabbling in sin; let us not fall for the enemy’s lies. We ask that when we do fall short, please forgive us. Grant us mercy when we don’t deserve it, and extend us grace. Thank You for giving the book of Psalms to guide and direct our lives. May we hold each word close, along with every word in the Scriptures. We love You, Lord; thank You for your many blessings. In Your son Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
