Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, power, and dominion forever and ever, and to the Holy Ghost, who continues to dwell within us, guiding our steps. This month’s messages delve into Humility: “Being Humble and Teachable.”
Wisdom is the ability to know what is right and then do it. In the book of Proverbs (4:7), Solomon writes, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” The bible tells us that wisdom comes from God and is given by Him (Proverbs 2:6). “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”
Hence, to make the right choice we need to seek God and the wisdom He gives us. As Christians we know the Holy spirit is the one who gives wisdom (1 Corinthians 12:8) and we are given wisdom not just to help us make good decisions but to know God better, to have a closer walk with Him (Ephesians1:17).
Solomon states that the purpose of writing his book is so that we might gain wisdom and discipline and understanding so we can do the right thing; what is right, just, and fair (Proverbs 1:2-3). Therefore, first we need to examine in growing in wisdom is humility and teachability. Unless we humble ourselves and become teachable God’s wisdom is wasted on us. In the first eight chapters of Proverbs, Solomon writes to his sons, and tells them repeatedly, “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother (vs. 1:8).” Or “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments (vs. 3:1). Solomon was trying to impart God’s wisdom to his son and to us, but he realizes, just as we do, that it is completely useless if it goes on deaf ears, which is what happens if we fail to put it into practice daily.
In closing, proverbial wisdom of humility and teachability by developing habits of seeking advice, and accepting criticism (correction). Being humble and teachable means, we receive God’s Words of wisdom, and we put it into practice. Otherwise, we are just deceiving ourselves.
Remember in all that we are confronted with daily, “…with God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).
