Our Churches started with a woman named, Mother Tate. Born January 5th, 1871. She was bound to spread the Word across many states. Mother Tate wrote music and literature. When she passed, she left behind a legacy, rich in His love and faith.

Cleveland, Ohio is where the music of the Church of the Living God took shape. Nettie Mae Harrison and many other outstanding musicians formed what our Church is most known by. Our spirit-led preaching and soulful tunes attracted many, from non-believers to believers in different religions. Our Church had a spunk that kept people drawn in. Along with our music, all members were required to be dressed to the “T”, for Chief Jewell believed that cleanliness was next to Godliness. Our Church, often referred to as “Jerusalem”, has a rich historical influence within Black America. A historical influence that we should be proud of.
